Wednesday March 10, 2010 - 7:00am Update Disclaimer
It’s that TIME of year once again... This Saturday night Day Light Saving Time kicks in which means we all get to lose another hour of sleep. Remember to set your clocks AHEAD one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. And this is also the weekend to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If you need assistance, Steve and the gang at Mountain Home Sound & Security are ready to help. Give them a call at 731-3701!
Winter Weather Advisory for Pagosa Springs Canceled.
Winter Storm Warning for Wolf Creek Pass Until 5:00pm... A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MST THIS AFTERNOON. * LOCATION...THE EASTERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS ABOVE 10000 FEET. * CAUSE AND TIMING...A STORM MOVING ACROSS NORTHERN NEW MEXICO THIS MORNING WILL BE FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM MOVING ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN REGION THIS AFTERNOON. THESE SYSTEMS WILL BRING BOUTS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW TO THE EASTERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS THIS MORNING AND AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON...WITH A POSSIBLE LULL IN SNOWFALL AROUND MIDDAY. * SNOW ACCUMULATION...ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 14 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED...WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS ON EAST FACING SLOPES. * IMPACT...ROADS WILL BECOME SNOWPACKED AND TRAVEL WILL BECOME DIFFICULT ACROSS THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS...INCLUDING WOLF CREEK PASS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... AVOID TRAVEL IN THE WARNING AREA. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO TRAVEL IN THE WARNING AREA DURING THE TIME OF THE WARNING...LISTEN TO THE LATEST WEATHER FORECAST AND CONSIDER TRAVELING AT ANOTHER TIME OR BY ANOTHER ROUTE. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL IN THE WARNING AREA DURING THE TIME OF THE WARNING...TAKE ALONG A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT. IF YOU BECOME STRANDED IN A RURAL AREA...STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL HELP ARRIVES. TO KEEP WARM IN YOUR VEHICLE...RUN YOUR ENGINE 10 MINUTES EACH HOUR...AND MAKE SURE THE EXHAUST PIPE IS CLEAR OF SNOW TO AVOID CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.
The system that brought us 2 1/2” of snow early this morning has moved far enough south into New Mexico that the Winter Weather Advisory has been canceled for Pagosa. We still have a 50% chance for snow today and tonight but we are not expecting too much in the way of accumulation. Wolf Creek remains in a Winter Storm Warning until 5:00pm this evening and could receive an additional 4” to 8” on top of the 9” they have received in the past couple of days. Our high today will be in the mid to upper 30’s with occasional snow showers or flurries and a SW wind 5 to 10 mph. Thursday will bring some snow flurries in the morning followed by clearing skies through the day. Our high will be in the upper 30’s. Friday and Saturday will warm us back into the mid 40’s under partly cloudy skies. Sunday will bring a cold front through Utah which will lower our high temp into the low 40’s and also give us a slight chance for some rain or snow showers. This cold front will move southeast of us by Sunday night and usher in some high pressure that will warm us back into the mid to upper 40’s for Monday and Tuesday under partly cloudy skies. So a few more flakes of snow today with no significant accumulation expected. Enjoy your Wednesday!
